Dari Injil ke Realitas: Tantangan Spiritual dan Sosial di Papua Pasca-Misi Ottow Dan Geisler

Abstract


Abstract. Papua has received the Gospel since 1855, yet the anticipated social transformation has not been fully realized. Structural poverty, poor quality of education, moral degradation, and development inequality reveal a significant gap between spiritual growth and social change. This study aimed to explore the role of the church in embodying shalom through a practical theological approach. Employing a qualitative method framed by Don S. Browning and Richard R. Osmer’s practical theological cycle, this research examined historical, social, and theological reflections. The findings indicate that the stagnation of social transformation is primarily influenced by three factors: the dogmatization of church ministry, uneven modernization, and limited access to education. Therefore, an incarnational praxis model that integrates contextual evangelism, early faith formation through Early Childhood Christian Education aligned with local culture, and synergy between the church, government, and community is a necessity.

Abstrak. Papua telah menerima Injil sejak 1855, namun transformasi sosial yang diharapkan belum sepenuhnya terwujud. Kemiskinan struktural, rendahnya mutu pendidikan, degradasi moral, serta ketimpangan pembangunan menunjukkan adanya kesenjangan antara pertumbuhan rohani dan perubahan sosial. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi peran gereja dalam menghadirkan shalom melalui pendekatan teologi praktis. Menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan kerangka lingkaran teologi praktis Don S. Browning dan Richard S. Osmer, penelitian ini menelaah data historis, sosial, serta refleksi teologis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa stagnasi transformasi sosial dipengaruhi oleh tiga hal utama: dogmatisasi pelayanan gereja, modernisasi yang timpang, dan rendahnya akses pendidikan. Karena itu diperlukan model praksis inkarnasional yang mengintegrasikan penginjilan kontekstual, formasi iman sejak usia dini melalui Pendidikan Kristen Anak Usia Dini yang selaras dengan budaya lokal, serta sinergi antara gereja, pemerintah, dan komunitas.
