Perlindungan Terhadap Orang Asing: Hermeneutika Kontekstual Kitab Perjanjian dan Hukum Deuteronomium

Abstract

Abstract. The foreigners are not new issues in human civilization. In the Old Testament, the foreigners received serious attention in social, economic, legal, and religious contexts. Biblical texts that discuss foreigner demonsrate their importance. They must be cared for because they are often victims of the tyranny of power. Their weak status is often exploited for profit. God warned Israel to protect foreigners. The main reason for prohibiting the oppression of foreigners is Israel’s expience as slave and alien in Egypt. In this context, this study examines the legal provisions of the covenant code and Deuteronomic law regarding the protection of foreigners. Using contextual hermeneutics, this study showed legal protection to address discrimination and oppression against foreigners.

Abstrak. Orang asing bukanlah masalah baru dalam peradaban manusia. Dalam Perjanjian Lama, orang asing mendapat perhatian serius baik terkait sosial, ekonomi, hukum maupun agama. Teks-teks Alkitab yang membicarakan orang asing membuktikan bahwa orang asing adalah penting. Mereka harus diperhatikan karena sering menjadi korban kesewenang-wenangan orang-orang kuat. Status orang asing yang lemah sering dimanfaatkan untuk mendapatkan keuntungan. Menanggapi realitas itulah Allah memperingatkan Israel agar mereka melindungi orang asing. Alasan utama melarang penindasan terhadap orang asing adalah pengalaman Israel ketika masih menjadi budak di Mesir. Dalam kaitan itulah penelitian ini dilakukan untuk melihat ketentuan hukum Kitab Perjanjian dan Hukum Ulangan terkait perlindungan bagi orang asing. Dengan menggunakan hermeneutika kontekstual, penelitian ini menunjukkan perlindungan hukum untuk mengatasi diskriminasi dan penindasan terhadap orang asing.
